Week 66:  November 9, 2011

At Private Collection Diecast and Memorabilia, shoppers will find an array of signed and unsigned model cars, motorcycles, race cars and more.  Owner Craig Boyce, who has been selling online for more than nine years, even has a few models of racing helmets for sale.  “I have many exclusive signed models from Formula One, MotoGP, movies and TV series,” he adds. “We have official signings, and supply photos of the merchandise being signed as proof of authenticity.”  Some of his top-selling items include Minichamps Formula One models, Minichamps Valentino Rossi models and Autoart one-eighteenth road cars, he says.  Boyce says he entered the model selling world because he saw a need for a seller specializing in models in Australia, where he lives. And sales have been good. Boyce gets between 140 and 160 orders every month.  The seller strives to make shoppers happy by providing them with good service, and upfront payment and shipping terms. He even lets them know they can call him if they have any questions.  He tells shoppers about his items on eBay, through his newsletter, local marketing, Google and Facebook, where he lists some of the items he has for sale.  Visit Private Collection Diecast and Memorabilia!

At WhatWig, shoppers will find an array of premium full lace and front lace wigs that look completely natural, notes store owner Atuche Onyia, an online seller of seven years. “My store is named WhatWig because when someone is wearing one of my wigs, you will not be able to tell that it is, in fact, a wig,” she says. “All of my wigs allow my buyers to have their own unique style and, if anyone asks them if they are wearing a wig, they will be able to say, ‘What wig?’” Onyia has worn wigs for years, and knows how hard it can be to find the right style and a fit that looks natural. Her shop aims to simplify the process by carrying an array of wig styles in several colors, and helping buyers find the right fit. The store’s Helpful Information page helps shoppers order the right size wig with a standard size chart and tips on getting the right head measurements. But if customers have questions, Onyia is more than happy to answer them. That isn’t a surprise. The site notes that Onyia understands how hard it can be to buy a wig without seeing and touching it, so she promises to “take extra steps to ensure you are provided with the best description and most accurate listings.” Onyia advertises her store on Google to attract new clientele, but she has a very loyal group of repeat customers, she says. They spread the word about her shop to their friends, and add to the store’s buyer base. To show her appreciation, Onyia regularly holds wig giveaways and is currently having one, which customers can enter until Nov. 30. Visit WhatWig today!

Week 64:  October 19th, 2011

Mike Barnow has been boating all his life. His father owned a hardware and marine-supply store. “He was boating since he left the navy,” Barnow explains.  Today, Barnow is following his father’s example with a marine supply store of his own, Marine Supply Direct.  The store offers thousands of boating supplies and accessories, including cleaning supplies, fishing tackles, chairs, watersports items, and engine and fuel supplies. But it’s pumps, steering systems, control cables and engine parts that are the most popular, he notes.  His distributor drop ships products to 48 states, so Barnow says he can list many more items than other sellers because he doesn’t have to worry about storing items. It’s a mixture of his vast inventory and customer service that make his store the destination for boaters, he adds.  Barnow took the store online after closing down his brick-and-mortar shop devoted to the same niche. Initially, he ventured onto eBay, but the listing and final value fees prompted him to look for another avenue to offer his products.  Not knowing a lot about designing a store, Barnow got assistance from Michelle G., another Auctiva Commerce seller who had helped a number of Auctiva Commerce merchants get their stores up and running. While she worked on the design, he focused optimizing his store for search engine visibility.  “When [Michelle] had the store ready, I opened with 400 items the first week. By the end of the month, I was showing up in the top five search engines for most of my items’ searches,” he notes.   Visit Marine Supply Direct !!

Week 63:  Septmber 28th, 2011

Hmm…maybe I should call this Store of the Month.  Anyway we’re back with another Auctiva Commerce store profile.   And just in time for holiday shopping it’s about toys.

For Pastor Dave Lincoln, selling online is a labor of love, in the most literal sense. Sales of kids’ ride-on toys and other items at his store, Speedy Solutions, help to support his ministry, which helps those who are down and out get back on their feet.  Lincoln’s biggest sellers are kids’ ride-on cars and motorcycles that parents can control remotely, though he continually watches market trends in search of new categories to expand his business. For example, having noticed that many of his buyers were women, he began offering women’s handbags. That move was successful enough that he recently launched a second Auctiva Commerce store, PrettyPurses.net.  Lincoln has found the Auctiva Commerce software and support staff to be very easy to work with. “I have found that the response times and responses from the help team are excellent. I have been very pleased with them,” he says.  Lincoln says his honesty and responsiveness in dealing with customers earn him a lot of referral business, and keep customers coming back. He even maintains spare parts for his products, just in case, and offers them at his cost.  “I always do everything I can to accommodate the customer, and will do refunds when necessary,” he says. “I get referrals because of my after-sales customer service.”   Visit Speedy Solutions today!

Week 60:  July 13th, 2011

Looking for something unique?  Then check out Driftwood Ocean Art – an Auctiva Commerce store that sells unique pieces of driftwood art created by the store’s owners, Robert Clare and Julie Deyes.  They started the store  after discovering the beauty of driftwood on a trip to Cardiff Bay Barrage where the couple frequently rode their bikes along the bay with their son. During one visit, Deyes spotted a large piece of driftwood on the rocks. “Julie commented that it would fit lovely into our garden, if only we could carry it,” Clare notes. “Being a typical male, I do not like defeat, and wrestled the said piece of driftwood onto the cycle path.” After getting the piece back home, Clare put the 12-foot piece of driftwood in their garden and agreed that it really did look great. This sparked the couple’s imagination, and they decided to gather smaller pieces from future trips to make other decorative pieces for the home. Clare soon gathered pieces to make a shelf. He listed it on an auction site, and “it sold almost immediately, and so the story started,” he says. This initial experience, coupled with lots of compliments from friends and family, encouraged the couple to open a brick-and-mortar store, where they could offer their driftwood creations. Today the couple operates this as well as an online store—Driftwood Ocean Art on Auctiva Commerce—where they sell their original clocks, mirrors, photo frames, lamps, shelves, decorative hangings and more!  Check out Driftwood Ocean Art today!

Janice Mayo describes her store as personal and unique, offering personalized party favors for any occasion. Though she only began her business in 2008, her items have already been featured in InStyle, Real Simple, Destination Weddings and Town & Country magazines, to name just a few. When the business began, Mayo specialized in personalized candy bar wrappers and water bottles. She had seen an episode of the Food Network’s show “Unwrapped,” and was inspired to try her hand at personalizing party favors. “I thought it was such a neat concept, and so I invested in the business,” she recalls. “After seeing all that I could do with personalized party favors, I sought ways to expand my product line.” Today, Mayo carries more than 1,200 items for any special occasion, from weddings to baby showers, to kids’ birthday parties. And almost any of her products can be personalized to make events extra special, she says. “My customers keep coming back, because I help them celebrate all of life’s events,” she notes. She says that customers can expect reliability when they shop with her, even on short notice. “I haven’t missed an event yet,” Mayo says. “If my customers inform me ahead of time of the need for a rush order, I can generally make it happen. Recently, I had an event planner contact me in need of party favors and she needed them within the next two days. I was able to put a rush on her items, and had everything shipped and in her client’s hands in less than 24 hours!”  Check out 123wrapper.com !

Week 58:  June 15th, 2011

Webstationten offers rocks, gems, minerals and fossils for people working in the laboratory, jewelers creating new pieces, or those just looking for unique gifts and metaphysical items.   Rich Heath has been selling, both online and off, since 1996. He decided to hit the Internet to bring in a little extra cash after retirement.   “A great opportunity awaits those who can understand the workings of the Web, both commercially and personally,” he says.   Initially, Heath was an eBay seller, but when the desire struck to start his own store, he chose Auctiva Commerce. While sales on his store are still growing, the software’s ease of use, its affordable price and its good customer service have made Heath happy, giving him another venue to sell his items.   The seller previously offered his items at local rock shows throughout the country to see what buyers wanted, and has used that feedback to fine-tune his current business. Today, he markets his business by including business cards and handouts in all of his shipments, as well as through word of mouth. So far, his biggest star has been his gemstones, though, he admits it’s still too early to know for sure which products will do the best.  Check out Webstationten!!

Week 57:  June 8th, 2011

When shoppers enter Sarah Nelson’s store, they’ll find “charming” products for their homes and gardens. At least that’s her shop’s official business motto. But Nelson’s personal motto is “a little better every day,” showing the seller’s determination to keep improving her store. Nelson loves “old fashioned things,” and focuses on providing quality products, she says. Some of the hottest items in the store are her 100-percent Egyptian cotton sheets and bedding sets, wrought iron garden trellises, vintage porcelain phones and Meyda Tiffany Lamps. Shoppers can also find kitchen accessories, wall art, window treatments and clocks, among many other items.  She spreads the word about her online shop through a mixture of search engine optimization, social-networking sites and word of mouth. The Charming Home Store is her second online venture using Auctiva Commerce, and while sales have been slow starting out, “Auctiva provides the tools and support for long-term success,” Nelson says.   “We tried it out briefly when Auctiva Commerce was first offered,” the seller notes. “In that first attempt, I realized I was not yet ready for an online venue outside eBay. Two years later, I felt I finally had the knowledge and experience to venture beyond eBay. I researched various e-commerce solutions available and came to the conclusion that Auctiva Commerce really was the best.”   Check out The Charming Home Store!

Week 56:  May 25th, 2011

Looking for vintage clothing items?  Then check out Xl3 Clothing Wholesale – a wholesale vintage clothing store started by Ramiro Moreno that has been using Auctiva Commerce since 2009.  “I first started selling on eBay, where I saw the Auctiva showcase that other vendors had on their listings, and that’s how I signed up with Auctiva,” the seller recalls. “I used to have an eBay Store when I read about Auctiva Commerce. I knew very little about computers but reading here and there I was able to set up my own online store. In my wholesale business, I used to have sales one week every month, but selling online is better because I can get retail prices and make sales every day.” Since opening X13 Clothing Wholesale on Auctiva Commerce, sales have been stronger than on eBay, Moreno notes. The software’s ease of use has allowed him to customize his store, complete with a fancy Scrolling Gallery that literally shines with inventory. The store is simple and organized so shoppers can easily find what they’re looking for, he adds. But what initially attracted Moreno to the e-commerce software was the value it seemed to provide. “What first drew me to Auctiva Commerce were the savings,” he adds.  Moreno’s shop is filled with hats, caps, scarves, jackets, kid’s apparel, sweaters, T-shirts and more. But some of the most popular items are vintage NBA jerseys, Starter Jackets and Izod Lacoste Sweaters. Having a surplus of these items from his brick-and-mortar days, Moreno says he often tests out a few items to see which are popular and which he should restock quickly.  Check out Xl3 Clothing Wholesale today!

Week 53/54:  May 4th, 2011

Rick Williams, owner of DisasterKitsUSA.com, says there’s no such thing as being too prepared these days. “My Family is really into preparedness,” he says. “[There are] so many disasters, storms, everyday emergencies such as car breakdowns, being without power, etc. You may need to survive on your own after a disaster. This means having your own food, water and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least three days.” He notes that while rescue personnel will likely get to the scene shortly after a disaster, they can’t reach everyone immediately, so it may take time to get help. “Remember Hurricane Katrina?” he says. “People were stranded for days without anything or anyone to help them.” At DisasterKitsUSA.com, shoppers can find a variety of preparedness items, including first-aid kits, search and rescue kits, trauma kits and emergency products like pouches of water, walkie-talkies and more that they can call upon when the unthinkable happens. And buyers can be assured their items will arrive on time, in good condition, and that they’ll get great customer service, Williams adds. “Let’s all be prepared, you never know when disaster will strike,” he continues. “If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. Let’s protect our loved ones by being prepared by having our 72-hour kits fully stocked and ready at a moment’s notice.”    Check out DisasterKitsUSA.com !!

Week 52:  April 20th, 2011

Len Redenbach, owner of L.P.R. Toolmakers, has been in the tool business for more than 20 years. In fact, the seller says engineering tools are his life. “I studied engineering throughout my trade school,” he notes. Redenbach first took his Australia-based company online about five years ago by selling hammers, files, cutters and more on eBay. “[We] thought by selling online it could only benefit our business, which it has immensely,” Redenbach notes. However, as fees on eBay got steeper, Redenbach looked for an alternative and found Auctiva Commerce, having used Auctiva’s eBay tools to list his items on the auction site. Getting the buyer traffic that eBay offers has been a challenge, but Redenbach says sales are steady and emphasizes the importance of selling quality items over a large quantity of them. That’s not to say that his items are pricey, however; they’re actually “quite affordable,” Redenbach notes. “We have a range of items that not many people have,” he continues. “We have good customer service and a good reputation Australia wide.”   To help garner traffic, the company uses its Auctiva Commerce Store to advertise some of the swap meets it holds around the country, which feature the products sold in the store. This has definitely helped L.P.R. Toolmakers spread the word about its business.   “We regularly get customers who have found us online that come to our store at shows and say, ‘Hi,’” he notes. But one of the best things about selling online is that, now, Redenbach can sell his engineering tools to buyers not just in Australia, but around the world.   Visit L.P.R. Toolmakers.

Need something nice for your home – particularly if you live in the UK?  Check out The House of Ashley – an Auctiva Commerce store that offers a large array of stylish home decor pieces and artwork.  The store is operated by Matthew McCartan who began selling online three years ago after the brick-and-mortar shop he owned lost its contracts as a result of the recession.  McCartan began using Auctiva Commerce to house his products last year, after first using Auctiva.com to list items on eBay. “I decided to change or die,” he notes. “So I used the products we had in stock for show houses, and sold them on eBay then moved to my own site.”  Importing items from Auctiva.com to Auctiva Commerce was easy, McCartan says.  And as he designed his shop, he aimed to create a good shopping experience by not only making the site easy to navigate, but by listing items in a way that would make them easy to find-making them searchable by type of product, color, style and design, and coordinated items. One of the hottest selling items in his store (and my personal favorite) is the retro lemonade clock he has in stock, but shoppers can find a variety of items to decorate their homes, from picture frames and bowls, to sculptures and figurines, to tableware.   Check out The House of Ashley today !!

And hoping to take her business to the next level, Robinson moved her business off eBay and over to Auctiva Commerce earlier this year after taking the 30-day trial and being impressed with the software.  “We have offered products on eBay previously and have a small number of listings currently as a means to get the world out for our main store,” she says. “However, we have since decided to discontinue offering them there due to the increased fees, other restrictions and policies that we feel impact profit and success. Robinson was especially happy about the store themes on Auctiva Commerce, as well as the feeds to Google Merchant Center and the “best seller” display within each Auctiva Commerce store.  Visit Special Occasions!!

Need supplies for your Kelly or Puki dolls? Then look no further than Tabloach Productions – an Auctiva Commerce shop that specializes in dolls and doll accessories.  Loanne Hizo Ostlie, the owner of Tabloach Productions,  chose Auctiva Commerce to set up her store and offer her Kelly and Puki dolls, as well as their accessories because of its ease of use. She kept her store design “cute, fun and very simple” to let her dolls do the talking. The store proved to be a hit, especially with international sellers. The hottest items in her shop are black Mary Jane shoes and Puki wigs. The feeds to Google Merchant Center likely helped her attract buyers, as she ranked high in search results for the dolls, she says. But it’s her customer service is what takes her business to the next level.  “I try to think like a customer and see how I would like to be treated when I go shopping, whether they are dollar or high-ticket items,” she says. “The key is to reassure your customers that they can trust you with their money and delivery of the goods in a friendly manner.”
